This special wrench is a must have for anyone working on the 3.8L SC engine.

NOTE:  Loosen the collor nut by pulling UPWARDS.   Tighten by pulling DOWNWARDS.

This one-of-a-kind tool is specially designed for the 3.8L SC engine and makes removal and re-installation of the supercharger top a breeze. Most cars require a few special tools and this is one that every SC/XR7 owner should have in their tool box. This tool has a 1/2" drive fitting on it to allow use of a torque wrench when tightening the collar nut. The Ford/Helms manual states that the collar nut should be tightened to 148 ft-lb. Frankly, this seems excessive, but I do recommend approx. 100 ft-lb. When you are using the correct Teflon intercooler tube sealing tape (shown as a "Related Item" on this page), you should retorque the collar nut again after waiting for ten minutes. Retorquing is necessary because the sealant tape flows and forms to the sealing surface. If the collar is not retorqued, the torque of the collar may drop causing a leak at this joint. Vacuum leaks are one of the prime reasons why your engine may not be idling smoothly. We also carry the intercooler sealing tape the factory used. Give us a call to purchase it for much less than your local dealership will charge. We can sell it in two-joint or four-joint kits. The 3.8L SC engine has a total of four separate joints that require proper sealing EVERY TIME it is disassembled.
